 A native of Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Brenner graduated from Brooklyn College cum laude. He received his MD degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse in 1970 and completed the first part of his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at the Philadelphia General Hospital on the University of Pennsylvania service. He then served in the US Air Force for 2 years and finished his postgraduate training at Roger Williams General Hospital in Providence, RI.
Dr Brenner has been practicing Primary Care Internal Medicine in New Haven since 1975, with a practice emphasis on preventive care. He is especially interested in the important role that primary care doctors have in preventing the complications of lipid disorders, hypertension and diabetes.
An attending physician at both Yale-New Haven and St. Raphael's Hospitals, he is also the Associate Section Chief for General Internal Medicine at Yale-New Haven and the Yale School of Medicine and is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine. For many years he has served on a variety of committees and medical boards at both hospitals as well as in the greater New Haven community.
He was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 1997. Dr. Brenner is very proud of his teaching accomplishments, having received teaching awards from the Yale School of Medicine for teaching medical students and St. Raphael's Hospital for teaching medical residents. He has also been elected by his peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America® from 1996 to 2008. Since 1982, Dr. Brenner has greatly enjoyed having been the House Physician at Long Wharf Theater.
Dr. Brenner is married and has two grown children and 4 (so far) wonderful grandchildren. He lives in New Haven and especially enjoys photography and reading when he is not busy with his practice and his family.
