Dr. McLeanRobert M. McLean, M.D. graduated cum laude from Williams College and magna cum laude from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He trained as a resident in internal medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital and then served as a Chief Resident in the Yale Primary Care Medicine Residency Program. After completing a fellowship in rheumatology at Yale in 1994, he began his practice of internal medicine and rheumatology here in New Haven.

Dr. McLean is board-certified in both internal medicine and rheumatology and is a Fellow in both American College of Physicians and the American College of Rheumatology. With the Connecticut chapter of the American College of Physicians- American Society of Internal Medicine, Dr. McLean works as co-chairman of the Health & Public Policy Committee, which aims to integrate the perspective of the practicing physicians into state and federal health care policy.

As Assistant Clinical Professor in the Yale School of Medicine, Dr. McLean maintains active involvement in medical education through the frequent teaching of Yale medical students and hospital residents in his office.

In addition to the broad range of conditions and preventive strategies which comprise internal medicine, Dr. McLean's scope of practice involves the musculoskeletal conditions of rheumatology - encompassing an entire spectrum of bone, joint and muscle conditions and other connective tissue diseases. Osteoporosis has become a particular interest, and he is the director of Connecticut Medical Group's bone densitometry testing center. In this role, he reviews each DEXA bone density scan and individually prepares the interpretive reports sent to the ordering physicians.
